One of my goals for 2018 is to be better at practicing self-care. This means making a conscious effort to take of myself. We all want to be there and give as much as ourselves to others, but I truly believe we need to make an effort to take care of ourselves. How can you help other people if you can’t even take care of yourself?
This means eating healthy, being active, getting more sleep and being less hard on myself. So in February I want to push myself to be stronger physically.
Let me talk quickly about my fitness goals for the year. I have always created fitness goals and it never lasted for more than a few weeks tops. Something would always throw me off – work schedules, life schedules, getting sick aka excuses. This year, I set myself to the the most attainable standards. My goal was to be active 3 days a week for at least 30 minutes. This meant getting my butt moving from my sedentary, sit on my butt all day office job (which I love btw!).
A few days before the new year I signed up for a promotional 10 class package at my local Pure Barre studio. Pure Barre is a low impact workout, which I would describe as a combination of Pilates and Ballet. I’ve never taken a fitness class ever in my life and after my first class I was hooked. The instructors, the challenge, and the class itself made me feel so good. I was always sore the next day, but it was 50 minutes where I was focused on my form, and feeling the burn vs having 57 random thoughts about things I needed to do, how much the house needed to be clean, etc. I was going 2-3 days per week, and was trying to eat better.
I just recently signed up for a month of unlimited classes, and in the month of February I am challenging myself to 20 classes in 28 days. Every Thursday, I’ll do an update to share my results and hold myself accountable. Don’t expect any before or after pics though, I’m not that brave to share that on the internet yet!
